The 2006 Tony Award-Nominated comedy Well arrives to the Arena Stage, running September 14 to October 14
in the Fichandler. The press opening performance is Thursday, September 20 at 8PM.
"Lisa Kron's semi-autobiographical story, about growing up
with illness, social activism and the constant fight to fit in, is pulled apart
live on the Fichandler Stage by her own mother's interjections. Or rather, by
acclaimed Washington
actress Nancy Robinette who portrays her fictionalized mother, while the role
of Lisa is passed on to Emily Ackerman (original Broadway understudy) for the
very first time. Kyle Donnelly directs," state press notes.
Playwright Lisa Kron has been writing and performing theater
since coming to New York from Michigan in 1984. Her
play 2.5 Minute Ride, a portrait of
her father whose parents died at Auschwitz, premiered at La Jolla Playhouse in
1996 and then in New York at The Public Theater in 1999. 2.5 Minute Ride received an OBIE Award, Drama Desk and Outer
Critics Circle nominations, an L.A. Drama-Logue Award, and the GLAAD Media
Award for best play on or Off Broadway, and was named the best autobiographical
show of 1999 by New York Press. She teaches playwriting at Yale School of
Drama. This fall she will be appearing as "The Ancient" in MCC's
production of the new comedy Spain
at The Lucille Lortel Theatre.
