No Rules Theater Co Presents PETER PAN: THE BOY WHO HATED MOTHERS

No-Rules-Theater-Co-Presents-PETER-PAN-THE-BOY-WHO-HATED-MOTHERS-20010101

No Rules Theatre Company (NRTC) will present Peter Pan: The Boy Who Hated Mothers adapted and directed by Michael Lluberes, at The H Street Playhouse, 1365 H Street NE, Washington, DC.

This world premier adaptation will run February 8 – March 3, 2012, Thursday - Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Saturday - Sunday afternoons at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $10 - $25 at www.NoRulesTheatre.org.

About the show: "Exploring the original ideas and inspirations behind this iconic fantasy, Peter Pan: The Boy Who Hated Mothers tells the visceral story of the boy who wouldn't grow up in a way you have never seen it before but how it was always meant to be told. Appropriate for ages 10 and up."

“This is a dark new re-telling of Peter Pan. Using one of Barrie’s own original titles ‘The Boy Who Hated Mothers’, we hope to unlock the darker mysteries buried deep inside his masterpiece,” says award winning adaptor and director Michael Lluberes when asked how this version of Peter Pan is different than others we’ve seen. “Barrie brilliantly explored the terrain of a child’s psychology and imagination in this work. This new Peter Pan will be a dangerous game of make believe, a dark exploration of the psyche of a child – both a child’s dream and nightmare and an examination of the relationship between mothers and children. I want to create a theatrical playground of childhood memory and imagination.”

NRTC Co-Artistic Director Brian Sutow states that they are "thrilled" to be presenting this world premiere, “When you dust off the Disney-fication of Peter Pan, you are left with a story with huge questions about what it means to be a human and grow up that are absolutely universal and wonderfully dangerous. When we approach telling a new story we get to consider the ways in which theater is best used and how we can truly fulfill our mission of telling stories that are at once easily approachable and yet carry deeply important ideas.”

“We deemed our third season, ‘a season of firsts’ for No Rules,” says NRTC Co-Artistic Director Joshua Morgan, “including Holly Twyford's directorial debut with Stop Kiss, the Winston premiere of Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years and the DC premiere of the tragicomedy Suicide, Incorporated coming to us straight from NY. Amidst all of that is NRTC's first original play, Peter Pan: The Boy Who Hated Mothers which encapsulates all of what it means to be a first for this season by being our first world premiere as well as our first commissioned piece.”

Cast: Adam Downs – Tootles/Smee, Megan Graves – Wendy Darling, Lisa Hodsoll (NRTC Company Member) – Mrs. Darling/Captain Hook, Maya Jackson – Nibs/Bill Jukes/Tiger Lily, Nathaniel Mendez – Slightly/Starkey, John Evans Reese – Peter Pan, Joshua RosenblumJohn Darling. Creative Team: Tyler Budde – Assistant Director, Theresa Hindersinn – Stage Manager, Elisheba Ittoop – Sound Designer & Composer, Casey Kaleba – Fight Choreographer, Michael Lluberes – Adaptor and Director, Brandon R. McWilliams – Costume Designer, Jennifer Mendenhall – Dialect Coach, Daniel Pinha – Scenic Designer, Eric Reynolds – Props Designer, Carrie Wood – Lighting Designer.

No Rules Theatre Company was founded by a new generation of theatre artists looking to create, collaborate and challenge themselves. Working in both Washington, DC and Winston-Salem, NC will present them with the opportunity to help transform two cities with immense artistic passion into cities defined by their artistic excellence. Peter Pan: The Boy Who Hated Mothers will transfer to the Hanesbrands Theatre in Winston-Salem, NC running from March 20 – April 7, 2012. NRTC was the 2011 recipient of the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company.
