The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Presents THE WARMBLOODED as Part of Nordic Cool 2013

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents the U.S. premiere of Sirkku Peltola's The Warmblooded by Finland's Tampere Workers' Theatre. Written and directed by Sirkku Peltola, The Warmblooded runs March 2 at 7:30 p.m. and March 3 at 1:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater as part of Nordic Cool 2013. Press opening night is March 2 at 7:30 p.m. The production is performed in Finnish with English supertitles.

From Tampere Workers' Theatre, one of the largest theaters in Tampere, Finland's performing arts capital, comes The Warmblooded, the third and final stand-alone production from an award-winning trilogy that chronicles the thinning fortunes of the Kotala family. Once the proud owners of a small farm, the Kotalas are now destitute, living beneath the overpass of a forgotten highway alongside a motley crew of drunks, Iraqi refugees, and Romanian gypsies. When the camp dwellers begin rehearsing a Christmas pageant for their charitable neighbors, they discover that their dismal lives under a cold, wintry sky can also be filled with small miracles. Written and directed by one of Finland's most frequently performed playwrights, The Warmblooded is a comedic, warm-hearted look at Finnish life.

Founded in 1901, the Tampere Workers' Theatre (Tampereen Tyovean Teatteri/TTT) is one of the biggest professional theaters in Finland. The theater has four stages-the Main Stage seating 800, the Old Main Stage about 400, the Cellar Theatre seating 160, and the restaurant theatre, TTT-Club, with a capacity of 240. TTT hosts about 700 performances each year, and has an annual audience of over 200,000. Their program consists of contemporary Finnish and foreign plays, comedies, musicals, and classics. The current artistic director and CEO is Mr. Riku Suokas.
