Signature Theatre Presents One Night Concert of 'Anyone Can Whistle' 10/6

(Oct. 6 7:00 AM) - Signature Theatre, nationally renowned for its interpretation of Sondheim musicals, takes on the Sondheim cult favorite Anyone Can Whistle in a special one night only concert, Monday, October 6, 2008 at 8:00 pm at the Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria. Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer will direct the performance, a rare opportunity to experience Sondheim’s wacky, intelligent, and highly unconventional 1964 work. |

'Doubt' at the Everyman Theatre

(Oct. 4 10:51 AM) - This is not the first time I’ve seen productions I’ve enjoyed better at the Everyman Theatre than on Broadway. Sure, Doubt on Broadway won the Tony Award for Best Play, Cherry Jones received the Tony for Best Actress in a Play, won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, but I found the play lacking and unenjoyable. |

The show opened on August 27th, 2008 With music by Richard Oberacker and book and lyrics by Robert Taylor and Richard Oberacker, ACE was directed by Signature's Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer with choreography by Karma Camp. Set just after WWII, ACE is an epic story of a young boy's search to come to terms with his past and unlock his future. A tale of triumph, humor, and heart as seen through a child's eyes, ACE magically explores the heroic lives and unforeseen legacies of the men and women of America's Greatest Generation. |

Signature Theatre to Hold Auditions for Children's Roles in 'Les Miz' 10/19

(Sep. 30 4:07 PM) - On Sunday, October 19, Signature Theatre will audition boys and girls, ages 7 – 12, for two singing roles and one non-singing role in its innovative new production of Les Misérables, which will run December 2 through February 22. Signature is looking for six children (two boys and four girls) all under 50 inches (4’ 2’’), who will alternate performances in their respective roles. |

Maazel's To Perform Benefit Concert at Kennedy to Support Castleton Festival

To help launch the fundraising campaign for the Castleton Festival, the Oscar/Tony/Grammy/Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch and Maestro Maazel will participate in a benefit concert at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. |

'Taking Over' and 'Wishful Drinking' Add Tour Dates and Locations

(Sep. 24 3:38 PM) - Today Tony Taccone, artistic director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, announced additional dates for two solo shows that he staged in Berkeley before launching them on tours across the continent. Danny Hoch’s Taking Over had its world premiere at Berkeley Rep in January and hit it big in Montreal this July; next week it starts an All City Tour featuring free performances in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx in addition to previously announced dates in Manhattan and Los Angeles. Moreover, after a record-breaking run in Berkeley last winter, Carrie Fisher’s Wishful Drinking careened through Hartford, San Jose, Santa Fe, and Washington, DC this summer; now it adds Seattle to a list of upcoming destinations that also includes Boston. |

Kennedy Center to Present Richard Thomas in 'Blanche and Beyond'

(Sep. 24 7:00 AM) - The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents Emmy Award winner Richard Thomas in Blanche and Beyond September 24-26, 2008 in the Terrace Theater. The one-man show is adapted and directed by Steve Lawson from the correspondences of Tennessee Williams between 1945 and 1957, and is a sequel to A Distant Country Called Youth, staged during the Center's Tennessee Williams Explored festival in 2004. This production is part of Prelude 2008: Arts Across America. Language and content for Blanche and Beyond is intended for mature ages, high-school age and above. |
