Newport, Tennessee born Luke Grooms has made a name for himself in both Musical theater and Opera. In musicals,he performed the role of Piangi on the final U.S.Tour of the original production of The Phantom of the Opera, the New York premiere of Jerry Springer: The Opera at Carnegie Hall playing Dwight/God and reprised this performance for Speakeasy Stage Company in Boston (Elliot Norton Award Nomination), and in the Off-Broadway production with The New Group (to high acclaim), as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables with Skylight Music Theatre and at Red Mountain Theatre Company, Beadle Bamford in Sweeney Todd with Fulton Theatre and for Hawaii Opera Theatre, Chef Louis in Arkansas Rep’s The Little Mermaid, and appeared as the Bishop of Basingstoke on The World Tour of Jekyll and Hyde. Luke has also performed over 30 leading operatic roles for companies such as Opera Orchestra of New York, The Metropolitan Opera (cover artist), Mississippi Opera, and many others, with a focus mainly in the bel canto repertoire of Rossini, Donizetti, and Bellini. Luke recently returned from two years abroad with The World Tour of The Phantom of the Opera where he portrayed the Lionman/Fireman and understudied Piangi.
